The Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) and the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the Legislative Gender Agenda Project, a strategic initiative designed to advance gender-responsive governance and strengthen inclusive legislative institutions across Africa.
The partnership represents a significant step towards promoting more representative, inclusive and responsive legislatures that reflect the needs and aspirations of all citizens. By leveraging CoSPAL’s extensive continental parliamentary network and PIC’s expertise in policy innovation and institutional reform, the initiative will support efforts to enhance women’s representation, strengthen gender-sensitive policymaking and foster inclusive legislative practices across African parliaments.
The Legislative Gender Agenda Project reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing democratic governance, promoting equitable participation and ensuring that legislative institutions are better equipped to serve increasingly diverse societies.
Through this collaboration, CoSPAL and PIC aim to contribute to the development of stronger legislative systems that champion inclusion, strengthen democratic accountability and create greater opportunities for women’s leadership and participation in governance across the continent.
